Wet felting is the process when hot water and soap are applied to layers of wool roving, while repeated agitation and compression cause the fibers to hook together or weave together into a single piece of fabric. Felt from wool is considered to be the oldest known textile. Nuno felting is the process of felting wool roving onto another fabric (silk). “Nuno” is a Japanese word for cloth or fabric. In this workshop students will learn basic of nuno felting, felt together different fibers (wool, viscose), silk fabric, yarn, silk thread. As a result, each student will have a unique neck warmer.

About the Instructor: My name is Mariya Gerhardt. About six years ago I started to do wet felting and I was hooked by its magic when a fabric, a unique and beautiful textile living image, is born from a bunch of scattered natural fibers of wool, silk, cotton, flax and other fibers. MriyaWeave is my shop name where “Mriya” means “dream” in the Ukrainian language as I was born and lived in Ukraine a big part of my life and now already for 15 years I’ve been living in US.
