Intro to Fiber Dyeing

$70.00

Instructor: Helen Boyle

Time of Class: 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Saturday, March 28

The workshop is a colorful, hands-on introduction to three dyeing techniques: ice dyeing, natural indigo dyeing, and reactive dyeing. In this workshop, we’ll explore how each method works, the pros and cons, and how different fibers respond to various dyes. We’ll also compare natural and commercial dye processes to give you a well-rounded understanding of the craft.

Each participant will receive three skeins of wool to dye during the class, along with detailed instruction sheets to take home. By the end of the workshop, you’ll leave with beautifully dyed samples, practical knowledge, and the confidence to continue experimenting with color on your own fiber.

About the Instructor: My name is Helen Boyle and I live with my husband on a small farm in north Georgia. We have a herd of angora goats that keep us busy and entertained. We got into raising the goats about seven years ago when my daughter was in 4-H. Our goats are three colors and have a hoard of personalities, and they are sheared twice a year. Our products include fiber from the goats, rolag and roving in many colors and fiber combinations, and my experience with dyeing fibers comes from creating the rolag and roving. I enjoy experimenting with dyeing techniques and color combinations, along with different types of fiber. I’m always looking for the next great color combo!
