About the Instructor: I’ve been a fiber artist for many years, but my salaried work was as a medical/health researcher and writer. When COVID hit, our lives dramatically changed. While my job ended because of the pandemic my husband was offered a promotion to move back to Tennessee from Texas–which is exactly where we wanted to be! I’ve always wanted a fiber farm, and we found a beautiful place within commuting distance to Nashville. Before I was even completely unpacked an opportunity to buy a small herd of alpacas and llamas came up and, well, that’s how Middle Earth Alpaca Farm began in January 2021. Yes, I am an avid Tolkien fan–and middle Tennessee couldn’t be any more idyllic of a middle Earth setting. I’ve now expanded to included heritage landrace Gulf Coast sheep and Tennessee fainting goats—both uniquely perfect to our southern state. I handspin and hand dye some of my fiber into yarn, but also use a Tennessee mill in Jack’s Creek to process my fiber into yarn. My signature work is finely crafted solid copper-wired Amigurumi dolls and alpaca & leather baskets, but I also sell pure alpaca yarn as well as uniquely beautiful handmade accessories crocheted or knitted with alpaca or Gulf Coast wool and finished with vintage buttons. I have taught Amigurumi and Tunisian crochet one-on-one.
