Getting Hooked on Tunisian Crochet
Join us in this introduction to Tunisian crochet, a cross between traditional crochet and knitting that creates a highly textured fabric. Whether it’s a dense fabric suitable for household items like hot pads and washcloths, or intriguing light and airy shawls, it all starts with using a hook and yarn. In this class, you will learn the basic Tunisian Simple Stitch (TSS). Once you’ve mastered this, you’ll learn how do colorwork, from stripes to the classic “woven” look that is unique to this craft — and you’ll leave with a small sampler that you can use as a hot pad! If time permits, you’ll also make another sampler that incorporates a few different stitches like Tunisian knit, purl, reverse stitches, and the extended Tunisian stitch, as well as techniques for increasing and decreasing.
Each participant will receive a kit that includes 3 different contrasting colors of worsted weight yarn and a straight crochet hook. Additional kits will be available for purchase — they’ll make wonderful gifts!
